Bringing People Together Through Music

By Aine Rathwell

“My heart is like a singing bird” wrote Christina Rossetti. This quote spoke to me, because music makes me feel free, like I can fly.

I always wanted my own karaoke machine. I first got the singing machine on Christmas last year 2017. My brother got it for me then.

My brother and I spent most of Christmas singing on the singing machine. He downloaded the songs off his iPad and recorded it on his cell phone too.

I received Party Tyme Karaoke: Pop Party Pack with 4 CDs and Billboard 10 karaoke box sets. This included 80 tracks and 40 songs with and without leading vocals. Singing the biggest hits of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. My favourite song to sing is “Wind Beneath My Wings” by Bette Middler.

We recently hosted some karaoke parties with our new friends, some people that came who didn’t know each other. When we started the karaoke machine, people actually got up and sang together to get to know each other. Everyone had a smile on their face.

My sister is going to bring the karaoke machine to the party we are hosting, which is a surprise early birthday party for my mother once she comes here.

In the future, I would like to share my karaoke machine with others that know us and our family so they get to know us better. It is a great way to spend time and get to know people better.

Can I make a suggestion for everybody?  If you are feeling sad, lonely or miserable try singing out loud to make you feel better and feel better about yourself.
