New CLBC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is Ross Chilton
- Ross Chilton will be the new CLBC CEO starting on August 12, 2019.
- Ross has been the CEO of Community Living Society since 2007. Ross is also a parent of an adult son with developmental disabilities.

CLBC Editorial Board is looking for stories from self advocates about independence
- Do you or someone you know want to earn $100 by writing a story about what independence means to you?
- The CLBC Editorial Board is looking for 250-word stories about what independence looks and feels like to people with diverse abilities and the different paths people take to gain independence in their lives.

Minister releases report on Re-Imagining Community Inclusion
- Minister Shane Simpson announced the release of a new report called Re-Imagining Community Inclusion. You can read the report here.
- This report has information about what people around the province said they wanted inclusion to look like in the next 10 years.
- The Minister will start working on ideas from this report once the new CLBC CEO starts in August.
CLBC Strategic Plan update
- After talking to self advocates, families and service providers, CLBC has made a few important updates to the 2017-2020 Strategic Plan.
- We heard that it is still very important to:
- better serve people with multiple complex needs, and
- strengthen relationships with those we serve
- We also heard there needs to be more work on:
- housing options, and
- stronger relationships with Indigenous people.
- CLBC also partnered with BC People First to create videos about CLBC’s Strategic Plan as well as our vision and values. You can read about this partnership here.

Auditor General of B.C. plans performance audit
- The Office of the Auditor General of B.C., also called the OAG, reviews different government agencies to make sure they are being run in an effective way.
- This is called a performance audit.
- In January 2018, the OAG added Community Living BC to its list of government agencies that it plans to do a performance audit for.
- Planning work for the performance audit has now started.
- CLBC is working with the OAG in this process to make sure services are effective and efficient for people in B.C.
Nominate someone for a provincial WOW inclusion award
- Do you know someone who works really hard to make sure people are included in community? Would you like to nominate them for a Widening Our World (WOW) Award?
- It could be an employer, teacher, support worker, community member, someone who lives with a disability, or anyone else that is making sure their community is welcoming and respectful of all people.
- Nominate your inclusion champion by July 31, 2019 by visiting www.communitylivingbc.ca/wow to fill out an online or hard copy nomination form.
CLBC’s next Welcome Workshops – help us spread the word
- The CLBC Welcome Workshops share information about resources in the community and about how different supports and services fit together in the big picture of adulthood.

- If you are interested in attending one of these Workshop series or know someone who is, please call your local CLBC office to register and for additional details.
New home sharing rates
New L.I.F.E.-based service coming soon
- L.I.F.E. stands for Learning, Inclusion, Friendship and Employment and will support people to pursue employment, build friendships, connect to the community and learn skills that build confidence and independence.
- CLBC is travelling around the province to spread the word about this new service. The events are called “Gearing up for the L.I.F.E.-based Service,” and will be held in:
- Prince George – September 12
- Cranbrook – October 3
- Terrace – October 9
- Kamloops – October 23
- Kelowna – October 24
Payment for Woodlands’ survivors
- CLBC has been helping find people who lived at Woodlands Institutions so they can receive money as a way to say sorry for the way they were treated when they lived there.
- If you know someone who lived at Woodlands you can help them receive payments by calling toll free 1-888-523-7192 or emailing woodlands.care.facility.residents@gov.bc.ca.
