Eliza’s Yarned Goods

By: Eliza Lee

My name is Eliza and I live in Delta, BC. I am very kind and caring towards others. Several years ago, in 2019, I was bored one day, so I decided to learn something new. I thought it would be good to learn how to knit and crochet.

I watched YouTube videos and taught myself how to learn to make baby hats. I started my own business, Eliza’s Yarned Goods and I’ve been working at it for six years now.

I make baby hats, baby hat sets, dolls, hair scrunchies, and facial pads. I sell my handmade items at local markets and do custom-made orders. I enjoy my business because I like knitting for babies and meeting new customers.

I also like going to the Ladner Village Market and the Creative Treasures Christmas Craft Fair to sell my handmade items. It feels special and I am proud that my items are displayed at the markets.

I enjoy being my own boss because I can work whenever I want. I don’t have to wear a uniform and I can do the markets on my own.

Sometimes it is hard to run your own business because you need to make lots of inventory to take to the markets. It’s hard to stay focussed on making more products and you don’t get paid until someone buys your handmade items.

I had an opportunity to make baby hats to send to Malawi, in South Eastern Africa. I did this through a nurse who worked at a baby unit at the hospital in Richmond. I am proud because I helped the babies there at the hospital.

I have a lot of people who support me in being successful. My family has been helping me with my business endeavors. They do this by taking me to the markets, to the Creative Treasures Christmas Craft Fair at the East Delta Hall and they help with arrangements to get me a table.

My support staff at Kyndred Community Living Society help me be more independent and organized. I hope to grow my own business and sell my items at other stores and at more markets.
