By Dwight Arthur Grose
My name is Dwight Arthur Grose, I am 59 years old and live with a wonderful Home Share Family in Abbotsford, BC.
I have been a member of the Abbotsford Self Advocates Group for over 20 years and enjoy attending the Annual Leadership Retreat where I learn about my rights and connect with other self advocates from around the province. I have worked part time two days a week for over 15 years now for the city of Abbotsford’s Downtown Business Association, keeping our city clean. I am a hard worker and love working outside in the fresh air and greeting all the citizens & business owners in our community. I also cut grass during the summer months for two different families and take responsibility for my own chores around my home. In the past I worked for the School Board delivering mail and part time on a local farm. The days when I am not working, I attend MSA Society for Community Living’s day program where I learn lot of interesting things like how to use a computer and searching the internet safely. A favorite activity is searching information about other cultures, traditions and customs, especially their music and dance.
I don’t take transit much because I love riding my bike where ever I go in community. In my spare time I enjoy relaxing at home watching old TV shows like Little House on the Prairie, Bonanza and Gun Smoke because they remind me of positive childhood memories. I also enjoy traveling on my own to Victoria and Calgary to visit & spend time with my siblings and family members and with my Home Share Family. One of my long-term goals is to move to Calgary and live with my brother and sister in law.
I have a full an active life and enjoy being able to make my own decisions and contribute to my community.
