On June 4, CLBC’s South Island Community Planning and Development office participated for the first time in the Sidney Access Awareness Day resource fair.
The fair is organized by the municipal Access Awareness committee, which was established through the work of Jeannette Hughes, a woman who worked tirelessly until her passing to make Sidney more accessible to people of all abilities.
The Town now awards a Jeannette Hughes Award each year to people who are making a difference in the lives of people with disabilities; this year, Ms. Hughes’ daughter presented the award to the Sidney White Cane Club for the support and connection they provide to people with low-vision or blindness.
