On Friday, March 21st, 2014, I explained to four Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA’s) from the CLBC Simon Fraser Region about my employment journey, the Community Action Employment Plan (CAEP), and about our coming employment work.
Doug, Richard, Kathy and Selina enjoyed learning about my school experience in Port Coquitlam and my continuing into Douglas College’s program experience. During high school and college, I had part-time work delivering newspapers, working at Old Navy and as a summer youth leader. I then shared my connection to multiple employment services like POLARIS, AVIA, and now with my employment specialist at Simon Fraser Society for Community Living.
I was proud to share with the MLA’s that I’m now working with PharmaSave, the BC Self-Advocacy Foundation, and as a communication intern with CLBC. I shared goals about the CAEP and my work spreading the news about employment across the region and province. I explained that I’ve presented and will continue to present workshops to individuals, professionals, mayors, and employers.
The MLA’s asked great questions about barriers to employment, how I coordinate my employment, and about social media. Everyone enjoyed lunch from Burnaby’s Joe’s Table!
