A Chapter in my Life

A Chapter in my Life

My name is Amanda Arnet.  I have a job as an Admin Assistant with the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction.

I have a Diversability, but I don’t let it get me down.  I am going to tell you about a chapter in my life.

One day I got a call from my job coach asking if I wanted her to submit my resume to the provincial government.

I said, ‘yes!’ A couple of days go by and I got a phone call asking if I was still interested in the job I said, ‘yes!’, so I went in for an interview.

They said that I was one of three who applied and they said they were going to call me if I made the short list.

Another other couple days go by and I got the phone call- I made the short list! I was so happy.

I went for the follow up interview. Another couple of days go by and I got that phone call that I was waiting for.

I got the job!

The job was for 6 months, so I was getting anxious not knowing where I’d be in 6 months. Then another 6 months went by and I was still there! My supervisor came up to me and offered me a permanent part time position. I said, ‘ yes!’  It felt so good. I was so happy.

I have been at my job with the ministry for 7 years.  I fill the printers with paper and help with plain language, get the mail, a lot of filing and a lot more.

Before getting the job I moved out on my own. I have been on my own for 9 years now.

It was the best feeling to move out on my own. I am part of a support program and we get to do a lot of fun stuff together.

We host a lot of fun stuff and I have a lot of friends. I am also gluten free and dairy free.

Having a Diversability does not stop me from doing the fun stuff I love.

Getting a job might be scary, but you can do it!  Just believe in yourself and don’t give up. Get back up and keep trying your best.

Thank you for listening about a chapter in my life.
