The North Okanagan-Shuswap Community Council invited 25 self advocates, caregivers and family members from Revelstoke, Salmon Arm, Armstrong and Vernon to learn how to set up and run an effective, self advocates’ group.
Community Connections self advocates from Vernon shared the work they had been doing to put together a strategic plan, using a great visual chart, and Okanagan Accessibility shared stories of the work they’re doing to remove physical barriers to inclusion in our communities.
They held a ‘world cafe’ to brainstorm what a self advocate was, what made a strong self advocacy group, and also thought about the best ways to work together.
It was a successful day!
