How My Trip to Mexico Made Me Thankful

By Shannon Lebrun (Abbosford, B.C.)

Hi, my name is Shannon, I would love to talk about my trip to Mexico and how it made me as a person with special needs so thankful. On September 22, I woke up at 3 am where my caregiver and her husband and I went to the Vancouver International Airport. We said goodbye to her husband and went to check in. After the process of checking in, we got on a plane at 6 am, it was a three-hour flight and we got there just after 9 am. We got to the cruise by 1 pm where we went and had something to eat and checked out our room.

There are a lot of things I am thankful for since going to Mexico for the first time. There were two tours; one was a day at the beach where I saw all the Mexican workers. I am thankful for what I have because the workers kept bugging me to buy things so they could get paid. I am thankful to have a welfare cheque and I am happy because I am able to live week to week, whereas the Mexican workers I saw work day to day. I am happy I have people who can look after my animals when they are sick and it was an eye-opener for me. I have a lot of people around me and a job. I am thankful for the things I have. As a person with special needs, going to Mexico has made me so grateful for what I have.

Once I came back and saw what I had and what the Mexican workers had, it made me appreciative of my life in Canada. I had fun on my trip and I am grateful for the experience. I am very thankful for what I have.
