June 19th 2016 marked the Silver Anniversary of one of Mission BC’s most beloved and celebrated events, “Old Car Sunday”.

It took place on Father’s Day and was attended by thousands of families throughout BC.

To mark the special occasion organizers registered 649 classic cars, all on display in tip-top shape.

They also brought in 2 world famous vehicles, Queen Elizabeth’s 1951 Chrysler New Yorker Convertible and the fastest jet powered car “The Terminator”.

Attendees took photos and selfies with all cars and took a special liking to the two special automobiles brought in to celebrate the 25th Anniversary.

In addition to the old cars, Sunday brought a lot of sun, food, and music to the park. The rain never materialized and the food trucks were out in full force.

“Willie and the Wannabee’s” played classic rock to the droves of car and music lovers, and surprised the audience with classic hits by the Blues Brothers.

Last but certainly not least, the Mission Self Advocates and Special Olympics volunteers were friendly and helpful during the entire day, from set up to take-down they all had what it takes to make an event a overwhelming success.

I had the privilege of talking to the volunteers and they were all very enthusiastic about the day and were especially thrilled to see the sun out on a day that was supposed to be so wet.

Thanks to everyone that helped make Old Car Sunday 2016 a very special event for all attendees and their families. Mission can not put on such great events without it’s great volunteers.
