On Inclusion and Summer Fun

This summer has really been fun. On Canada Day music in the park started in Kamloops. We get free live music every night for an hour and a half.

There are a few locals who play at music in the park, but most are musicians from out of town. Some are good and some aren’t.

Personally, I think they should hire more locals. Music in the park goes until the end of August.

I like Canada Day to celebrate our achievements as a Country and think about how far we have come for inclusion for people with disabilities.

We can also think about how to improve inclusion. I am most proud to be Canadian because we have come along way in spreading disability awareness and inclusion.

My newsletter, the Kamloops Self Advocate, is one way I spread awareness and break down stereotypes.

In the last 20 years we have come from living in Institutions to living in the community and being included in summer fun like everyone else.

My family and I went to see Taylor Swift’s 1989 concert in Vancouver this summer. She sang for 2 hours and danced all the time. She worked her butt off.

It was well worth the money it cost for the tickets. I am a big Taylor Swift fan. The next day, we went to the Vancouver Aquarium. It was really hot out but we saw all the exhibits.

I also went to my best friend Ben’s house and had my first sleep over. We went to a movie that night called Fantastic four and it had lots of action in it.

He also stayed for a couple of nights at my house. I never had a best friend like Ben before.

I love being included in the community during the summer.

I hope everyone enjoyed their summer as well! Have a great Labor Day weekend.
