A long-time leader in British Columbia’s community living sector with a track record of advancing inclusion in social service agencies and on sector boards will become CLBC’s next Chief Executive Officer, starting August 12, 2019.
Since 2007, Ross Chilton has served as CEO of Community Living Society, a service provider that provides services to hundreds of individuals with developmental disabilities and families across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. During this time, he helped expand employment and support options, and formed the Community Living Housing Society to support innovative, inclusive housing solutions.
“Ross Chilton brings valuable perspective and experience to this role,” said Shane Simpson, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction. “I look forward to working together with Ross and the CLBC team as we continue in partnership with service providers and advocates on the process of re-imagining community inclusion for British Columbians with developmental disabilities.”
“I am looking forward to helping CLBC continue to build innovative, effective and sustainable services,” said Ross. “Government has put a priority on effective services, and CLBC has a very committed board and a strong leadership team. I am grateful for the opportunity and excited to start.”
Ross has previously served on several boards including the Family Support Institute, the BC Non-Profit Housing Association, the BC CEO Network and Steps Forward.
With a master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia, Ross has also worked as a counsellor and vice president for the Interlock Employee Assistance Program, and is known for his energy, innovation, and warm relational skills. Ross is also the parent of an adult son with developmental disabilities.
The CLBC Board of Directors led a comprehensive search process to replace retiring CEO Seonag Macrae, which included speaking with individuals, families and service providers about the needs of CLBC’s next leader.
“Ross is the right candidate to build on the solid work CLBC has done under former CEO Seonag Macrae in recent years to strengthen services,” said CLBC Board Chair Michael J. Prince. “Ross stands out for his core values, his compelling passion, and his deep understanding of the challenges and the opportunities ahead for advancing the inclusion of individuals who live with developmental disabilities.”
Community Living BC is a provincial crown corporation that provides supports and services to adults with developmental disabilities. Created in 2005, CLBC today serves more than 22,000 people and their families across the province.
