The feeling of Inclusion at the Mission Tim Hortons

The Tim Hortons in Mission, where I have been living since 1984, is a welcoming place for me to interact with other citizens from my community.

I have been going on almost a weekly basis since the official opening.

It is very comforting to know I have the right to sit down there and talk to my friends any time I want.

The employees know me by name and always ask how I am doing.

They know I order an extra large French Vanilla cappuccino and they have it ready for me.

 Sometimes we joke around because they have gotten to know me.

This makes me feel included in my community.

The Manager, Calvin Adams, says hello to me on a regular basis.

He also listened to our self advocacy group letter asking for an automatic door  for people with disabilities and parents with strollers.

This makes me feel like I have strong voice in my community which is a very rewarding experience.

Calvin shows a great amount of respect towards myself and fellow people with disabilities in Mission.

I feel safe and respected at the Tim Hortons in Mission. My friends and fellow  self-advocates laugh when I say, “ if you have a problem and need  advice  just come find me

 at my office at Tim Hortons”!
