Hey, my name is Victoria.
I am a self-advocate with Semiahmoo House. This is a hard time. The coronavirus is making me scared but I’m trying to get the positive side.
I finished my Culinary Arts Program (CULA) at Semiahmoo House and love cooking and baking. I am also trying to find a job through WISE employment program with Semiahmoo House.
When the virus came I was trying to get a job at a bakery but they had to close. Now I do work labs with WISE on ZOOM to learn about getting a job for when it is safe for me.
Also on ZOOM I took a baking class with Elizabeth and it made me so happy. We made strawberry shortcake, no bake cookies, cinnamon roll cookies, blueberry muffins and snickerdoodles.
I did many other things on ZOOM also from on-line classes like yoga, dancefit, coffee talk, happy hour and Disney chat. The best thing on ZOOM was our small groups for Self-Advocates with Nolda. We got ideas to help seniors. I wrote cards to them. I also helped my grandmother in her garden.
I am getting tired of ZOOM!
I really like talking and being with people face to face and now I am starting to go out two days a week with my worker to go for coffee or bubble tea. We wear masks and social distance.
It was my idea to have a social distancing picnic at a park with my self-advocates small group. I’m looking forward to it! I’m thinking of baking some chocolate chip cookies to eat there.
