Hello, my name is Alexa Lehwald and I am a Community Development Pod member at Semiahmoo House Society in South Surrey, BC. I am also a CLIC member too which stands for Community Leaders Igniting Change.

I graduated from the Community Leaders Igniting Change program which was a 12-week program that took place at Simon Fraser University. The program was hard and challenging and the textbook that we got didn’t make any sense at all, but I did it and I am very proud of myself. Now that I have graduated, I do more interviews with people who I reach out to through text or email. I interview people about how they have been affected from the pandemic and their jobs. This is my first paid job ever and it is very rewarding because my goal is to get more people excited about the community so that we can all get to know each other better.

As we all know Covid-19 has affected everyone’s lives for the last 1.5 years. It has been very hard because we can’t see anyone in person yet. It has affected me because I am a very social person, and for CLIC I can’t do interviews in person, so we do them all online. As hard as it has been, I think this whole pandemic has helped me in a positive way to reach more people to do more interviews because computers are easier to handle and a quicker way to connect with someone, which is nice, so I don’t have to drive anywhere. It’s saves time and money.

Looking forward to the future, I am excited to see my friends that I haven’t seen in a while. For CLIC I hope one day I can do interviews in person because you can get to know someone better, but I still like doing online interviews so I can access more people because I am a professional at online interviews now. Thank you, covid-19, for making me a professional online interviewer.
