CLBC board members recently spent the day in Vancouver connecting with self advocates, service providers, community partners and CLBC staff to learn more about services and connect with people CLBC supports.

To start the tour, six self advocates who are part of the Leslie McGarrity community inclusion program met with Board members Dave Babych, David Everett, Eileen Stewart and CLBC staff at the CLBC Vancouver office. Through this program, people involved take part in a different activity in the community each day.

“The tour was a great opportunity to hear from the individuals in this community inclusion program and learn about the supports they receive,” said Eileen. “I’m pleased that CLBC is able to fund services that are truly person-centred, and support people to connect in all sorts of ways to their community.”

Next, board members visited a staffed residential home in Vancouver run by Western Human Resources Corporation (WHRC) to connect with the individuals who live there and the WHRC staff.

“During our visit, I could see that there has been much care and attention taken to make this place a home where the individuals who reside there can live their lives while receiving the supports they need,” said Dave. “It’s great to see the positive impact this has on people’s quality of life.”

The Board members finished off the tour by meeting with Vancouver Community Council members back at the CLBC Vancouver regional office.

CLBC Board members also toured Kamloops and the Surrey/Delta communities in June.
